A distinguished family and cosmetic dentist, Dr. Brian Hartwell has been practicing dentistry in Trenton for over 30 years. He jokes that that´s long enough to be seeing the children of children he first cared for when he returned Downriver. He built his practice on West Road after graduating from University of Michigan Dental School and after serving two years in the U.S. Navy as a dentist. Recently he was honored to be named one of the top dentists in the United States by the Consumer Research Council of America. "It´s gratifying to know that our striving for excellence in patient care has been recognized. I could not have received this honor without my terrific team."
Hartwell knew at a very young age that he wanted to pursue a career in dentistry. For a middle school science fair, he did an experiment soaking extracted teeth (donated by his dentist) in various beverages. Hartwell says he has never been sorry for joining the profession. "I enjoy the sense of achievement in applying my judgment, experience, and skills in resolving problems. There is also the inner satisfaction of contributing to the physical well-being of my patients. It makes my day when I get a hug or a warm thank you note from an appreciative patient."
Brian and his wife Katie are avid sailors, competing in dozens
of races each summer aboard their Abbott 33 Feisty. He founded the community
sailing program at Grosse Ile Yacht Club and headed the program for 20
years in order to share his love of the sport with others. The couple
have two grown children: Ellen is a University of Michgan graduate, has completed a Masters
dregree at the Art Institute of Chicago , and currently is enrolled in a PhD program in Art History
at the University of Illinois, Chicago. She lives in Chicago with architect husband Garry. Son Trevor
has graduated from the University of Michgan Dental School and has joined our practice. He and fiance
Sara plan a July 31, 2010 wedding in AnnArbor. The family loves to get together for travel,
sailing and outdoor adventures.
